Bernard Joseph LaMothe
1940-2026
Bernard LaMothe, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Froedtert South-St. Catherine’s in Kenosha, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 86.
Bernard was born on June 9, 1940, in Lake Linden, Michigan, he was the son of the late Wallace & Eva (Beaudoin) LaMothe. He was educated in the schools of Michigan where he proudly played as starting quarterback since his freshman year, and on the varsity basketball team throughout his high school career. Shortly after graduating, Bernard relocated to Kenosha to work for American Motors Chrysler where he was employed for 37 years, retiring in 1997. On July 21, 1962, he married Barbara in Kenosha. His hobbies included working on cars, watching and cheering on all sports and many teams, including University of Michigan, Michigan State, Chicago Bears, Milwaukee Bucks, and many more, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Bernard will affectionately be remembered by his children, Michelle LaMothe, Thomas LaMothe both of Kenosha; brothers, Harold (Verna) LaMothe of Kenosha, Fran (Lynn) LaMothe of Wild Rose, Wisconsin; sister, Pat Salmi of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; 6 grandchildren: Rick, Jonathon, Janelle, Todd, Rachel and Tayler; and 7 great-grandchildren: Jack, Alan, Luke, Brenna, Abel, Mason and Oliver. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 56 years, Barbara, and his many other siblings.
Bernard leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who loved him dearly, and a legacy built on service, hard work, devotion and the simple joys he treasured. His love of family and his passion for cars and sports will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to all who had part in caring for Bernard: Dr. Neil Shepler, his longtime friend and physician, his office's staff, Brookside Care Facility and their wonderful "helpers" and administrators, and all those who cared for Bernard in the ICU at Froedtert South- all of whom were very sunny during difficult times.
It is with a selfish heart that we wish he was here to share more of our lives, but he is needed elsewhere and where he goes, we cannot yet follow.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Kenosha Funeral Services from 4:00PM-6:00PM, with funeral services to follow at 6:00PM.
