Obituary

Carrie Lee Jackson

1942-2022

Mrs. Carrie Lee Jackson was born to the late
Rufus Nelson and Beatrice Heglar, on January
16, 1942, in America, AL. She moved to Pine
Bluff, Arkansas as a child with her beloved
grandmother affectionally known as "lil
momma," when she was three years old.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Rose
Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in Pine Bluff,
AR. She graduated from Coleman High School
in 1960. Like many from the South, after
finishing high school, Carrie and her second
husband moved to the Midwest to pursue
better career opportunities where she found
employment in the automobile industry. She
migrated to Kenosha, Wisconsin where she
was employed by Chrysler Motors for over 30
years, until her retirement.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church
of Kenosha, WI. She loved volunteering to
register voters as well as monitor the polls
during elections. Carrie returned to Arkansas
in 2018 where she loved spending time with
her sister Lois, family, and close friends. She
was an outspoken advocate for women, a
loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her

proudest achievement was being "gran-
nanny," to all her grandchildren.

Carrie was preceded in death by husband
James Jackson, her parents, her daughter
Marla Jackson, and her sisters Jerrie Dean
Nelson, Billie Ruth Summers and Vera Lee
Hewitt.
She leaves to cherish in her memory three
sons, Eugene Nicholson of Kansas City,
Kansas, Terrance Throw of Walworth, WI, and
Joel Jackson of Madison, WI; stepsons, James
Edward Jackson of Dallas, TX, and Leodis
Jackson of Wilmer, AR; two step daughters,
Odessa Shorter (Gary) of Waukegan, IL and
Angela Nash of Wilmer, AR; four sisters,
Christine Nelson of Jasper, AL, Ruby Nelson
and Ormer-Jean Gaines of Parrish, AL, and Lois
Summers of White Hall, AR, 18 grandchildren
and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
