Margaret Mary O'Dwyer
1941-2023
Margaret Mary (Maggie) O'Dwyer of Kenosha, WI and formerly of Carrollton, VA passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023, after a long, courageous battle with vascular dementia.
Maggie was born June 24, 1941, in Grand Rapids, MI, as the youngest of four children to the late Edwin Earl Leach and Mary (Doyle) Leach. Her childhood was spent in Grand Rapids where she graduated high school from Catholic Central in 1959. She later attended nursing school at Holy Cross School of Nursing in South Bend, IN where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.
Maggie was married in the log chapel at the University of Notre Dame and soon began the next chapter of her life as a Navy wife and mom raising 3 children. She later settled in Chesapeake, VA with her family and became active in her children's schools as PTA President and school nurse. Maggie also became involved in her community participating in the Garden Club and volunteering as a parish nurse. After raising her children, Maggie began working fulltime as an operating room nurse at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA.
Maggie was funny, feisty and full of life. She loved to travel, garden, ballroom dance and cheer for The Fighting Irish. Her Irish eyes truly were always up to something.
Maggie's greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family, especially with her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her 3 children, Kevin O'Dwyer, Kathleen (Jim) Hawkins, and Sean O'Dwyer; Also by her grandchildren Connor O'Dwyer, Emma O'Dwyer, Emily Hawkins and Nicholas Hawkins. As well as her brother, Lary (Shele) Leach. Maggie is joined in heaven by her parents and her brothers, Richard and Jack.
The O'Dwyer Family would like to thank her caregivers at Brookdale Kenosha and Allay Hospice for their support and caring. They are truly angels on earth.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
