Obituary

MaryAnn Puglisi

1958-2025

MaryAnn Puglisi, 66, of Washington, D.C. passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025.

MaryAnn was born on June 29, 1958, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Angelo and Melvena (Montebello) Puglisi.

MaryAnn had deep roots in her native city of DC, and except for periods away during her college years and travels abroad, she chose to fully embrace Washington, DC as her home. She grew up playing on Hearst Elementary School playground, graduated from the Maret School and received her BA in American Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She studied Architectural Drawing in Italy and went on to earn a Master's degree from the George Washington University School of Business.

MaryAnn was an active member of her beloved Dupont Circle neighborhood where she spent more than 35 years befriending neighbors and supporting local businesses, including local farmer's markets and live music venues. She was an avid supporter of women's sports and a devoted Washington Mystics fan. She enjoyed biking in Rock Creek Park, skiing in the French Alps and various mountains in Colorado and Vermont. MaryAnn adored gathering with friends at her beachside condo in Ocean City, Maryland.

MaryAnn was the Founder, President and Chief Engagement Officer for All Out for Change, the non-profit she established to assist financially disadvantaged college-bound students by providing tuition gap coverage, laptops, and extra financial help with education-related expenses.

Prior to founding All Out for Change, MaryAnn worked for many years in public communications for the Natural Bridge of Virginia and played an important role advocating for the donation of the soaring landmark bearing George Washington's initials, and once owned by Thomas Jefferson, to be donated to the Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund, which occurred in 2014.

Survivors include her brothers, Leonard Puglisi of North Carolina, Angelo Puglisi, Jr. of Washington, D.C. and her sister, Caroline (Hal) Puglisi of Maryland. MaryAnn was preceded in death by her parents and her life partner, Larry Grodsky.

A celebration of MaryAnn's life will be held in D.C. at a later date.

MaryAnn had a philanthropic heart and supported many charities and organizations. If you wish to honor her life and work, please consider making a donation in her honor to All Out For Change: https://www.alloutforchange.org.
