June 20, 1936 – January 5, 2023

Nancy Salzwedel, 86, of Pleasant Prairie passed away on January 5, 2023, at Grand Prairie nursing home.

Nancy was born June 20, 1936, in Hammond, IN, the daughter of the late  Erwin "Erv" and Myrtle (Steinbach) Vierk. She attended Thornton Fractional High School in Lansing, IL, where she met her husband, Robert Salzwedel. On November 18, 1956, Nancy married the love of her life Robert Salzwedel in Lansing, IL. Nancy was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother raising four children throughout the 1960s and '70s. She always put her children first and dedicated her time and energy to the well-being of her kids.

In Lake Forest, after receiving her real estate license, Nancy worked for Caldwell Banker. She also worked for real estate developer, Bob Shaw, later in her career. Nancy was also extremely active in the Lake Forest Historic Preservation Foundation. Having started her university degree at University of Wisconsin, Madison, she finished her degree at Lake Forest College some 30 years later. Attending College of Lake County, Nancy received a horticultural degree and opened her own business called Devine Designs. Nancy and her entire family enjoyed attending services at Faith Lutheran Church in Lake Forest, IL.

Nancy had a hard time holding still and loved to fill her time traveling, volunteering, and gardening in all its forms. She was a huge sports fan cheering for the Chicago Bears and Cubs as well as the colleges her children attended which included TCU, Indiana University, SMU, and DePauw University.

Survivors include her loving husband Robert Salzwedel of Pleasant Prairie, her four dear children Robert E. (Teresa) Salzwedel of Scottsdale, AZ, Scott (Sherie) Salzwedel of Portland, OR, Bruce Salzwedel of Libertyville, IL, Suzanne (Ron Wisiewski) Salzwedel of Lake Bluff, IL, her beautiful grandchildren Haley, Tori, Nick, Will, and Whitney. Nancy was preceded in death by her wonderful parents Irwin and Myrtle (Steinbach) Vierk, and her beloved brothers Tom and Vern Vierk.

Nancy will be remembered as a person who embraced life with humor, intellect, compassion and fairness to all.

The family plans to have a private memorial service.
