Robert Lloyd Fleming

1947-2026

Robert Fleming, 78, of Zion, IL passed away on July 29, 2026, at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Robert Fleming was born on August 31, 1947, in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of the late Herman and Genevieve (Cook) Fleming. He graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo and was deeply proud of his service in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1968. Following his military service, Robert worked at Colorado Fuel and Iron until 1985. He then relocated to Zion, Illinois, where he was employed by Commonwealth Edison at the Zion Nuclear Power Plant. After the plant closed, he continued his career with the State of Illinois, working first at North Point Marina and later at Illinois Beach State Park.

Robert will be remembered as an incredibly hardworking man who took great pride in everything he did. He had a deep love for languages and history, and anyone who spent even a few hours with him likely heard stories of his travels to Ukraine or his passion for genealogy. He took particular joy in sharing his family history, including connections to a lord of Rydal Hall and to Jesse James. He also had a love for collecting treasures—especially cars and motorcycles—and had a unique ability to find beauty in overlooked things. Above all, he took pride in his family and will be remembered as a loving provider.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Fleming of Pueblo, CO; children, Melanie (Bryce) Pettengill of CO, Jeb (Jenifer) Fleming of Kenosha, and Marcie Gutierrez of CO; also included are his grandchildren, Caden, Hayley, and Noah. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Hermina.

A memorial gathering will be held at Kenosha Funeral Services on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 3:00 PM- 4:00 PM, with memorial services to follow immediately at 4:00 PM.
