Elaine Berndt

1936-2021

Elaine Berndt, 85, of Kenosha, WI, passed away on Thursday August 5, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine was born on January 19, 1936, in Delmont, S.D., the daughter of the late Mathias and Lena (Andachter) Pepplitsch. Her family moved to Parkston, S.D., when Elaine was a young child, where she worked at their family business and attended the Parkston schools.  Elaine married Arthur Berndt, Jr. on November 10, 1952. Together with Art, they owned and operated the Parkston Locker, a family meat processing company until 1975. In 1976, Elaine and Art retired and moved to Mitchell, S.D. Then in 2017, Elaine moved to Kenosha, WI, to live with family. Elaine loved people. She always had a knack for making new friends and went out of her way to strike up a conversation with anyone and talk about many common topics. Elaine's hobbies included reading, perusing the internet on her computer, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Karen (Gerald) Bertsch of Kenosha, WI; Kathy (Curt) Struck of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Cindy (George) Woychik of River Falls, WI; brother, Paul Pepplitsch of Fort Lauderdale, FL; sister, Mary Forseen of Clinton, IA; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, Jr. in 1997, and her parents in earlier years.

A private family service was held to celebrate her life.
