Shirley Jean Free

1938-2023

Shirley Free, 84, of Kenosha passed away on February 7, 2023, at the Bay at Waters Edge.

Shirley was born on August 8, 1938, in MS, the daughter of the late Marlin and Bessie (Frost) Pate. She was educated in the of MS. Shirley married Byron McCreary which she later divorced she then remarried William E. Gray whom she also later divorced. Shirley then married the love of her life Clyde Free. Shirley was self-employed as a doll maker for many years. Her hobbies included making dolls, collecting antiques, baking, but most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Jeanine) McCrary of Pleasant Prairie, William Gray of Minong; brothers, Billy Pate of Kenosha, Bobby Rae Pate of Hawaii, Chuck (Barb) Pate of KY; sister, Roberta (Paul) Baumeister of Kenosha; also included are her 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; daughter, Cindy; sisters, Hilda, Dorothy, Elaine and her brothers, Donald and Jerry.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday February 13, 2023, at Kenosha Funeral Services from 4:00PM-5:00PM with memorial services to follow immediately at 5:00PM.
